T43 BIOS Supervisor Password

Hi

I have just taken over the support of an IBM Thinkpad T43 (type 2668) and I wanted to lock the BIOS (Version 1.02) so I set an 8-letter supervisor password that I routinely set on most of the PCs/laptops I support. Everything was fine and I saved the changes to the BIOS but when I try to reaccess the BIOS I find I am locked out!

Anyone have any idea what the problem is? If I didn't know better I would say I was entering an incorrect password but I know the one I entered is correct as I use it all the time.

If I'm not mistaken, supervisor passwords are limited to seven characters. This is the case for T2x systems. I don't have a T43 and I haven't tried setting an SVP for my T41s. Try just the first seven characters and if that doesn't work, then the first six characters and the eighth.

Unless you have passphrase turned on, you are limited to 7 characters. If you type 8 characters at the prompt, you won't get in. If you have passphrase turned on, you can enter 64 characters
