T61 screen brightness
T61 screen brightness
Looks like my t60 is giving me bad eyestrain. My right eye would become red and painful for several days after 2-3 hours the laptop. I'm thinking of switching to the t61 with a lower resolution so that my eyes do not have to be so close to the screen. How bright is the screen? How is it compare to the t60? I'm not very happy with the t60 brightness.

You don't seem to mention the resolution of Thinkpad T60 of yours.

I have seen XGA display of thinkpad T61 and found it to be adequately bright. In general, T61/p displays are more brighter than that of thinkpad T60/p's.

Re: T61 screen brightness
In a test which I read, the screen of a T61 14.1" XGA was measured at nine points. The brightness measurements were between 124 and 158 cd/m². Average screen brightness was 135 cd/m². Ergonomic brightness for indoor use has been said to be 100 - 120 cd/m². An average brightness of 135 cd/m² thus leaves some reserve for backlight aging.madcow wrote:How bright is the screen? I also read a test of a T60 with 14.1" SXGA+ screen. The average screen brightness was 108 cd/m² and contrast was described as being low. From following this forum, I got the impression that screens in at least some T61 ThinkPads with 14.1 SXGA+ screens might be significantly brighter.

madcow, a temporary solution for the dimness is to go to Display Properties, click on "Advanced" and crank up the gamma, brightness and contrast settings.
BTW, the 14.1" SXGA+ T60 that I owned for five months was very bright, so not every 14.1" SXGA+ T60 has a dim screen. By the same token, even though the T61 is supposed to be slightly brighter on average, there's no guarantee that that the particular unit you order will be brighter than your current T60.
