T42 - Problem with LCD

#1 Post by ngtloc » Thu Nov 29, 2007 12:02 am

Dear All,
Could you help me to identify what's the problem with my Notebook T42? The LCD is very opaque, the Operating system still work well; with ex. monitor is OK; I cannot use Fn+ Home/End to change the bright.

(all is Original).

Thanks you very much!
Thanks and best regards,
Tien Loc, Nguyen

Opaque?

So it's not lighting up at all or what?

Exactly! For looking on LCD, it is very hard to see. -> the light is not enough.
Thanks and best regards,

There are 2 likely possibilities: inverter and backlight. The inverter is cheap and relatively easy to replace. The backlight is the little bulb that runs along the bottom of the LCD. (inside the panel) Most people cannot replace the backlight, so they neet to replace the whole panel.

I have the same problem(s) on my 14.1" sxga LCD. Anyone suggest a good place to locate a replacement panel? I've noticed on one site a replacement with a 'high-gloss' option but have never seen one on a TP - any opinions on the glossy option?

Check out the marketplace.
Jamiphar offers to replace your backlight tube for a fair price.

Did the LCD show a red tint when you booted it for about 20-30 seconds before it failed? If so, it's the inverter. If not, then it's probably the LCD/backlight.

The last post is backwards. Red tint means backlight.
