Dock station type 2631 10U - T23?

#1 Post by t23_user_britain » Thu Nov 29, 2007 11:18 am

Hello I am thinking of purchasing a new Type 2631 dock station for my T23 and want to play games that require 64MB Graphix. I hear that there's a half size PCI slot on the side, is this compatable with half size graphics cards, normal graphics cards or low profile graphics cards? And if so, what're the one compatable for this slot?

The T23 is my first ever laptop pc so I'm new to all stuff about laptops, I hope it lives up to what I think it to be.

So please, can anyone help?

Welcome to our forums.

You can read all about the dock here:
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkPad_Dock
Amongst other things, it includes a small list of compatible PCI graphic cards.

If you look at the bottom of your TP, you'll find the IBM Type/Model such as 2647-4MU.
On this webpage, http://tinyurl.com/2kw6lp change it into your specific type/model and you can see what your TP originally contained.
You'll find all drivers, BIOS updates, manuals etc. there as well.
There's also more info on the dock on that page.
Make sure you get the Hardware Maintenance Manual (under 'User's guides and manuals' on the left).
Print that out (ca. 170 sheets single print or 85 pages when you fit 2 pages on 1 sheet). It's an invaluable help to take your TP apart (quite easy).

Contrary to popular belief, the T23 can take 2x 512MB (1GB total) RAM.

To help other people answer your questions better, put the TP model in your 'signature' in the Profile section (see mine).

Not sure what you want to say in your last post, but in your signature you got one HECK of a CPU with 113GHz! Wishful thinking...
That should be 1.13GHz.

And please put in the Model/Type (like 2647-4MU) after the T23 in your sig.

Sorry forgot about that. Will this card I buy make my games run faster? Because one of the game requires 64mb of ram but the s3 supersavage has only 16mb, so if I add this card to the dock then connect it, it will make my game work, right?

Excuse me if I sound stupid, but it's because I have no knowledge of laptops or how they work whatsoever. :(

If you buy a PCI card to put in the dock, you can use that card ONLY for display on an external monitor. It will NOT improve your laptop screen at all!
Also, if you read thiat Thinkwiki carefully, the performance of those PCI cards is not all that good, hardly usable for gaming!
ThinkWiki
Due to the slow PCI bus, gaming is generally not improved much by external cards.
