Just ordered a set of downgrade CDs from Lenovo, it's FREE!
I called IBM/Lenovo Canada for this. A rep told me this is 100% free, no charge at all. I asked him twice, he said yes, it's free and I can still keep my Windows Vista recovery CDs. It's awesome. Windows XP Tablet Edition recovery CDs will be here about 3 business days.

Yes, I'm sure several of us have made this happen. I made the complaint back in May/ June, and forwarded the MS document that allowed the downgrade. Some on this board told me I was misinterpreting the doc, but the folks on the other end of the phone agreed with me and promised to pass it up. I'm certain many others have made the same complaint and now you can enjoy something, I had to beg for (and a member of this board helped me with). The computer runs much faster with XP. The INK functionality is a bit compromised, but otherwise you should be pleased.bin.dong wrote:I called IBM/Lenovo Canada for this. A rep told me this is 100% free, no charge at all. Who do you call at Lenovo Canada for this... sales or easy serv? The web page that mentions the downgrades says there's a charge for it.bin.dong wrote:I called IBM/Lenovo Canada for this. I called Lenovo here in the Netherlands and their rep. told me that to be able to downgrade from vista i'd have to purchase a set of recovery discs for XP professional... for the sum of somewhere around 65 euro's (somewhere around 90 US dollars).
Weird how you guys can get it for free in Canada

It may depend on what kind of warranty you have.bergje wrote:I called Lenovo here in the Netherlands and their rep. told me that to be able to downgrade from vista i'd have to purchase a set of recovery discs for XP professional... for the sum of somewhere around 65 euro's (somewhere around 90 US dollars).

I just called Lenovo Canada trying to get help with a new hard drive install and my recovery CDs (the ones I created) may be corrupted. Therefore, I'm getting a new set in 3 to 5 business days (free of charge).

Re: Just ordered a set of downgrade CDs from Lenovo, it's FR
Can someone who has experience with both Vista and XP Tablet say in what ways INK is worse in XP Tablet? I am thinking of downgrading but I'd like to know what the downsides are before I make the decision.proaudioguy wrote:The INK functionality is a bit compromised, but otherwise you should be pleased.

For me the experience was just inferior. XP Tablet hasn't been updated in a couple years. They've learned a lot.noetus wrote:Can someone who has experience with both Vista and XP Tablet say in what ways INK is worse in XP Tablet? can anybody from the US share/confirm their experience with getting a set of XP downgrade discs? i just called and was told there would be a fee of $45 plus shipping, which would come to about $55 after everything.
i ordered my system with vista business, but i've been more than a little underwhelmed with vista itself. i tried a clean XP Tablet install on my own but i ended up with a few little quirks and decided it might be a good idea to give the official lenovo build a try. so i called and was thrown off by the $45 fee. after reading this thread i expected it to be free or, at most, the cost of shipping. i told them i'd have to call back.
