No DVI output from Advanced Dock with T61p

#1 Post by billj32 » Sat Dec 01, 2007 11:38 pm

I mounted my T61p into an Advanced Dock with output to a a Dell 24" 2407WFP-HC monitor. VGA works great but I can get no DVI output. I tried more then one cable without success. I have Windows Vista Ultimate on the T61p. My T40p with XP Pro on a Dock II works great with DVI to a Dell 21". I have looked at Lenovo Support and the forums but still cannot figure out what to do to get DVI output. When I toggle the monitor to DVI mode, it shows no signal. Did anyone else initially have this problem. Any help you could give me would certainly be appreciated.

I just bought an Advanced Mini Dock for my T61P and it does DVI just fine to a 19" LG LCD, and that is through a DVI KVM switch (to complicate matters). I'm running Vista Business. Not that it helps much other than to say the T61P is capable of it. Maybe the dock is defective ...

I have the same Dell monitor, and it works fine with my T60 and Mini-Dock. Could be a bad DVI port on the monitor; do you have another DVI source to test it with? If it works OK through an alternate source, I'd say the dock is bad.

VGA output is always prior to DVI on Advanced Dock and they can't work together. If they do, then one can have 3 screens in front. :)

So if you connect both VGA and DVI of your Dock, only VGA will work. Unplug your VGA cable before you connect the DVI output cable. Besides, don't forget to press the source button on your external monitor to switch to the correct input source.

They can't work together. but they can all be hooked up. I have done this many times and DVI works fine as long as the external monitor source is set to DVI.

Thanks to all for the replies. Still trying to figure out the problem. Tried an Eizo monitor via DVI connection and did not work similar to the Dell 24". I am thinking it is maybe a problem with the dock. All my T4xp series laptops worked fine using the DVI port on the Dock II. Guess I just ran out of luck with the Advanced Dock. Probably time to give Lenovo/IBM support a call.

Called IBM support and they are going to ship me another Advanced Dock. I hope the problem is in the Dock and not the T61p.

You can ABSOLUTELY run both the DVI and VGA at the same time, to support two external monitors. No problem. But when you do, the built-in display will be dark.
Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care.

Yes, RonS is correct. I'm running two external monitors from the dock, one DVI at 1600 x 1200, and one from the VGA port at 1028 x 1024. Works beautifully.

There are only two RAMDACs in the video card, so it can only support two outputs simultaneously.

Ultimately I gave up on the Thinkpad Presentation Director, and I'm using ATI's tool with no problems.
