Thinkpad 600 2645 model -- modem not detected by win98se

#1 Post by grassden » Mon Nov 15, 2004 8:11 am

Hi all, got all the updates for the rest of the hardware -- ie trackpoint, video and sound. But this internal modem , gee whiz, what a pain!! just wondering , iv tried folllowing their instructions as their txt files indicated but not sure if it in conflict with the infra-red device? but having to do this via cd-rom , not a lot of fun! sighs so if someone could give me some ideas as to how to solve this bloody modem problem oot i be a lot happier!! (it not mine but a friend of mine who gave it to sort the pc out, nothing on the hard drive at first changing the bios setup to boot from cdrom (took me 4 days to figure out that the ultimate boot cd was the best utility disc iv ever seen to sort the harddrive!! but hopefully this problem can be solved!!
Yours ever pathetic Servant!

One thing to check:

You can have only two serial devices working at any time. That means you can have serial port + modem, serial port + IR, or modem + IR. Not all 3

If you remove the serial port or IR and you still can't access the modem, make sure it is actually there (dumb question) and properly plugged into the System Board. As a first check you can go into Easy Setup (press F1 while turning on the computer; hold F1 until you are in Easy Setup), select the Diagnostic function (ambulance icon), and see if the modem is grayed out. If it appears grayed out, it isn't working.

Hope this helps.
