T41 won't turn on... part #?

#1 Post by XsTatiC » Sun Dec 02, 2007 6:01 pm

Hello :)

So about three weeks ago my T41 started having some issus. Once day it just wouldn't turn on. I figured it was dead however the next day it turned right on and booted up fine.

It then worked fine for about a week and a half. Then the same thing... wouldn't turn on ( or return from hibernate as the case was ). However this time there was no love. It just doesn't want to give any sign of power.

There are no green lights, the battery was fine... there's just nothing. So I read elsewhere on the internet that this is actually a common problem with earlier Thinkpad A models and to some extent Thinkpad T models.

There were solutions that came both from IBM support and other contributors of that thread. One was to hold the power button down for 30 seconds with the battery out and unplugged, put it back together and voila... it should work. No dice for me. I've tried every recommended solution.

The fix for the A models was to replace the power board. My question though is does the T41 have a separate power board or is it just integrated into the main motherboard?

Thanks.

Gerry

There is no separate power board. When you plug it in, does the battery light come on to show the battery is charging? If so, it could be the switch in the keyboard. (Fairly common and a lot cheaper than a motherboard)

Unfortunately for me the battery charging lights do not come on.

Guess that's new mobo time :(.

Thanks for the reply.

Cheers,

Gerry

Test your AC adapter with a multimeter. Look for 16v at the center pin. You could also have a bad DC jack. (Where the AC adapter plugs into the laptop)
