Why does the wireless radio light keep flashing

#1 Post by pae77 » Sun Dec 02, 2007 9:02 pm

On my recently acquired T61p, the wireless radio light under the display keeps flashing almost all the time while I am connected to my home wireless network even though the connection is pretty good. This rarely occurred on my previous T42p. Anyone know what the flashing means or why it is doing that?

Also, Access Connections frequently indicates it is connected to an N router, even though it is an ABG router. This seems strange also.

If it's anything like the T60 series, the flashing means you're connected to the Internet. The faster it flashes, the more Internet traffic is going through your computer, for example when you're downloading something at a high rate of speed.

Perhaps you are connecting to another router in your area? If the router is indeed an ABG router try moving to the A band you should in theory connect better there.

And yes I believe the blinking indicates traffic on the wireless band.

Hello,

wireless light indicator:

- steady on... device enabled
- blinking... traffic on the adapter

cheers,

Thanks to all for the replies. I find the blinking light to be slightly annoying when my internet traffic is heavy but it is good to know this is normal behavior.

I think I was wrong about the router. I think it is just B/G. At the moment Access Connections is properly showing a G connection, with two antennas on the laptop graphic circled on the Access Connections display.

I can see that some people would find it annoying. I'm sure there's some registry tweak to have it either solid or turned off, but I kind of like it. lol

Especially when downloading large files, that baby flashes likes it's on something good... 8)
