T43p: need bigger HD

#1 Post by ctgilles » Mon Dec 03, 2007 3:30 pm

I need a bigger HD for my T43p. I don't really understand how or what, so if anyone could help me in the right direction. I currently have a 60GB 7200RPM and I'd like a 160GB 7200RPM HD or even bigger.
What harddrives are supported and do I need to edit/flash anything?

edit:
Also, I found this one at a local computer store: 2.5 Notebook HDD 250GB ATA 8MB 5400rpm WESTERN DIGITAL (WD2500BEVE)
Will it work? All 7200RPM seems to be SATA :(

Thanks in advance!

PATA only. There's a PATA version of that 250GB WD drive, but you'll probably end up with a 2010 error that this forum is so familiar with. It'll still boot, it'll jsut let you know that you're using a non-IBM drive...EVERY time you boot. :P

The 2010 error is a non issue for me. I set the BIOS to continue booting on this error.

The only time that I notice the error is if I happen to look up at the screen at the moment the error appears. This error screen probably stays visible for 10 seconds or less.

At first I though that I had to reflash the drive to make my T43p perfect. I studied with enthusiasm the 2010 error thread.

I curbed my enthusiasm and lowered my expectations and can live with the error screen for 10 seconds.

Not a problem at all....for me that is.

YMMV

Call up Lenovo and ask them to tell you how to get past the error. Tell them that it is a common "defect" among T43's. There is no reason for this error.

WHile the 2010 error can be lived with on startup, I found it very annoying because it also shows up after you resume from hibernation.
I ended up flashing the firmware.
