RAM speed for t61

#1 Post by madcow » Tue Dec 04, 2007 12:24 pm

According to Lenovo, T61 supports RAM speed up to 667 Mhz, but T61 has a bus speed of 800 Mhz. Does this mean using 800Mhz RAM instead of 667Mhz RAM will make no difference?

That's correct - it will make no difference. YOu can use DDR2 PC2-5300 or DDR2 PC2-6400 and get the same performance either way.
Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care.

That's bad. I want 800Mhz memory.

Anyway, what's the difference between PC2-5300 and PC2-5400? They both are 553 Mhz RAM. But why the label difference?

800MHz memory will down-clock to 667MHz so PC2-6400 is a waste on the current intel chipsets.

PC2-5400 just means the modules were tested at a higher frequency.   it's a marketing gimmick.   you'll never notice a difference.
