#1 Post by tselling » Tue Dec 04, 2007 8:40 pm

Lowest spec'd Z61t I have ever seen, but with DDR2 sodimms so cheap... and some of us probably have some spares seems like a deal to me. From Lenovo outlet:

Hey, I think that's a good deal - would work out smashingly for my wife. :) And I have a gig of RAM already for it - thanks for the link!

Is that a built-in webcam at the top of the LCD?

Yes, but that's a stock picture of Z61t, the machine on sale doesn't have a webcam.

Configuration of 9440A4U is: Celeron M 420(1.6GHz), 256MB RAM, 40GB 5400rpm HD, 14in 1280x800 LCD, Intel 950, CDRW/DVD, 802.11abg wireless, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, 4c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro

CPU, RAM, hard drive, and optical drive are all fairly easily upgraded. If you wanted a 1440*900 screen you may have to spend a while tracking it down cheap enough...

Incidentally, does anyone know if this particular machine or others on Lenovo Outlet ship to Canada, and if so through which method? I don't feel like registering on channeladvisor just to find out, and I was unable to find an answer without actually trying to buy it.

Yes, if this wasn't a Celeron I would be on this like white on rice.

These machines cannot be upgraded to core duo, but I beleive they can take in a dothan.
Now: T60 2613-EKU | T23 2647-9NU | 600X 2645-9FU | HP 100LX
Past: X31 2673-Y13 | T41 2374-3HU | T22 2647-AEU

The Celeron M 420 is a Conroe-L family chip, part of Intel Core architecture, which uses socket M. I don't know about upgrading it to a full Core Duo or Core 2 Duo chip, but it definitely cannot be upgraded to a Pentium M Dothan due to different sockets.

From the TABOOK, it looks like the Celeron and Core Duo models use the exact same motherboard. With R5x models, upgrading to Pentium M's from Celeron's worked fine. This was true on R50, R51 and R52 models.

I think trying this upgrade is worth a shot, all the Z61t models use the same BIOS and EC. The upgrade should work.

P.S. A Lenovo rep. told me they are out of this model now.

I think these machine can be upgrade to core duo such as T7400/7200/5600/2500/2400/2300. Socket 479, socket M, Yonah, FSB 667, Napa platform.

The outlet still shows the Z61t at $399.... but if the Z61t's are gone there are some new deals at the outlet now. $750 for an X61, $655 for a T61, and an R61e starting at $442.

Are they still making the z61t?

#14 Post by forcelite » Tue Dec 11, 2007 11:51 pm

I thought I read on this board that they stopped manufacturing the z61t laptop. But I just got mine in and it was manufactured on October 20th 2007. Its a Core 2 Duo. It seems that they still are making them. What does everyone think?

If you bought this at this sale, it's possible they were clearing out old stock of Z61t chassis/motherboards that were not previously assembled, hence the recent date of assembly.

Now I see you say it's a C2D... where did you buy it from?

New Z61t $399 from lenovo outlet

#16 Post by RRHODY » Wed Dec 12, 2007 4:45 am

I ordered one Friday afternoon, PDT; it arrived Monday AM. The one year warranty is good until February 2009; almost 14 months. The UPS tracking showed it came from Hong Kong, via Osaka, Japan, Anchorage, Alaska, Louisville, KY, Ontario, CA, Cerrittos, CA, to Long Beach, CA. So far, it looks good to me.

The one I got came with 60gb HD instead of the advertised 40gb.... though only 12 month warranty.

Confirming the arrival of a Z61t with a 7 cell battery and 60GB drive.

$10-$20 is RAM and it's good to go.

Pretty amazing deal for $399.
