Tablet: Lenovo X61 vs. Fujitsu T4220

#1 Post by flashstar » Wed Dec 05, 2007 12:35 am

My father is running an electronic medical practice and he needs 5 tablet PCs (this is essential for talking to patients and putting in information).

1. The processor speed does not really matter too much.

2. Battery life is extremely important. External battery charger requested in addition to notebook. Anything over 4 hours battery life is good.

3. Does not require an optical drive.

4. Weight is very important.

5. Pretty sure 2gb of ram is good.

6. Hard drive must be at least 80gb.

7. Notebook should be very durable and reliable.

I have narrowed the search down to two companies, Fujitsu and Lenovo. Other manufactures welcome though. It seems like the X61 is lighter, a bit thinner and arguably more durable while the Fujitsu has a built-in DVD+-RW drive. Trackpoint or touchpad does not really matter.

The Fujitsu and the Lenovo come out to be about $2000 with a 3 year on site warranty. F

Finally, should I get Vista or XP for use with medical software (Healthmatics)?

Here are the specs:

Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo L7700 LV (1.8GHz, 4MB L2, 800MHz FSB)
Operating system: Genuine Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005
Operating system language: Genuine Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 - US English
Display: 12.1" MultiView + MultiTouch WVA XGA TFT, 2x3 UltraConnect II antenna
Total memory: 2 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory (2 DIMM)
Keyboard: Keyboard US English
Hard Drive: 120GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm
Wireless cards: Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG
Battery: ThinkPad X60 Tablet 8 Cell Li-Ion Battery
Power cord: Country Pack North America

Language Pack: Language Pack US English
Accessories and options:
3 Year On Site Upgrade with 3 Year ThinkPad Protection

What are your thoughts?

Thanks.

I would contact the software company and ask their opinion on both the os and the laptop question.
Surely they have some history with both.
Tablets are notorious, at least to me (lol), for not being the most bug free machines, necessitating a more thorough due diligence process.

Be sure to take weight into account, especially when the users will be standing all day. Consider a slate model (without keyboard) or a lighter convertible tablet like the Fujitsu T2010.

I have a T4210. Couple of thoughts:

You'd be lucky to get four hours of battery life on the standard battery. 3:00 - 3:30 is more realistic with screen at full brightness (which you'll want).

I don't have an X-series tablet to compare to, but it's noticeably heavier than my X31.

I would highly recommend the Fujitsu T2010 over the T4220. I got mine for a little over $1400, it's 3.5lbs comes with a 6 cell but I can easily reach 7 hours battery life. It's only 1Ghz but it's core 2 duo which runs loops around my 3ghz P4 desktop, and ULV which is the main reason for high battery life. No optical drive like the X60 and I think it is bit a cooler. The screen is WXGA, LED and IPS(meaning wide viewing angles). It can get very bright close to 300 nits, the X60t SXGA+ is around 185 nits. The screen is almost too bright at max and it is very comfortable to view at 50% saving you battery life. Got mine at newegg and the reviews there are all positive. Laptop Authority and Fujitsu sell it for more but they will accept returns so I suggest you try one from there first.
