Making JUST original base image Recovery CDs?
Making JUST original base image Recovery CDs?
Even if I have installed several applications and amassed GB's of pictures on my hard disk, can I create a Rescue & Recovery bootable backup of just the original image?
When I start to run the process and select "Backup Entire Hard Disk" it doesn't seem to give me options to select "exclude" locations. I cancel the process before it prompts for a CD. 60 GB's is going to require quite a few CDs and still a dozen or so DVD's. I've searched the forums to see some more details without success. If anyone can confirm or point me to more details I'd greatly appreciate it.
My task is to backup my T61's (7664-16U) Vista image prior to down-grading back to XP Professional! I received the XP Rescue & Recovery CDs today!!! Running Vista on 2 GB RAM is still painful.
Thanks! Appreciate all info and pointers.

Or even mentioned here:
Before you begin downgrading to Windows XP.
What these disks would contain:
FAQ "How to use Recovery CD Disc Set".
My assumption is you're confusing Rescue and Recovery backup with Recovery/Restore media. There is a guide in the help section of Rescue and Recovery, I suggest you kindly read it.
Hypocritically speaking, the thing you're accomplish will never be successful since Windows operating system and application restore is not possible from a CD/DVD backup of Rescue and Recovery.

Hmmm. I have read most if not all, so I must be getting something confused. I also know you can't restore apps' and that apps' need to be reinstalled. But what about the space they take up? What I haven't seen (or I missed it in my haste) is whether I get to exclude files, or will all my "picture" files be backed up in the regular backup?
Thanks for the pointers, I will do some reading this weekend. Appreciate it.

Well you do not state what version of rescue and recover you are using. On the latest version you would do.jamesd058 wrote:Hmmm. I have read most if not all, so I must be getting something confused. | Start (menu) | All Programs | ThinkVantage | Rescue and Recovery | "Launch advance Rescue and Recovery" (lower left corner) | At the very top under "Advance" | Exclude Files | you can exclude files and folders.
Hope that helps.

Factory installed state is the out of the box state that contains everything including operating system, drivers, application, folders etc. that was included with your lenovo factory preload except the data and files you created afterwards.jamesd058 wrote:I guess "Factory Installed State" wouldn't include my data or any application directories!!! Time to slow done and read between the letters! Thanks again for input (and patience.)
