Has anyone upgraded their T42 systemboard to a T43 board? I'm just wondering if it will have the same fittings as my current board.
I am currently looking at T43 P/N 39T5636.
Cheers in advance!

It's been done. If you go couple of months back into the Marketplace here you'll see that there was a T40 chassis with T43 board, completely configured and working laptop, for sale.
If you really liked your T42, you may want to find the original board. T43s are completely different set of animals...and I've had both in just about every shape and form. More noise, more heat and more speed, that small change from "2" to "3" inevitably brings.
Good luck.

Cheers for the info ajkula66,
Well I want more speed out & better resolution. The screen is only 1024x748 & that is just too small. So I also plan on getting another screen at some stage, but the first step is the system board.
I've got a 1.86 Processor sitting here waiting for a 533FSB board & the memory is quite cheap atm.
So i'm just hunting for a T43 board now...ahh the joys!
Cheers again!

I converted a T41p with a dead system board to a T43.
As you guessed, you need a different processor and memory (533 MHz FSB and PC-4200). You will also need a new PC Card/Express Card adaptor, as the connector on the T43 system board has a different gender. If you have a Bluetooth/Modem in your T42, it won’t work in the T43, an error message will result. I believe the Modem only cards are the same. Using non IBM/Lenovo hard drives generates an error message on boot in the T43. If you are happy with 5400 RPM, the Fujitsu drives already have the required software additions right out of the bag and don’t generate the error. For 7200 RPM, I have had success flashing HGST drives using the procedure listed elsewhere in the forum.
You don’t need to move to T43 to get higher resolution. All T40 series were available in both XGA and SXGA+ in the 14” versions. As ajkula66 wrote, The T43 runs hotter and the fan is nosier. Obviously many members dislike the fan noise of the T43. It does not bother me. The one advantage of the T43 that does not seem to be mentioned often in this forum is that the system boards do not seem to have the GPU BGA attach failure from flexing that the other T40 series have. This is a common failure and you see many dead ones on e-bay. That was the cause of death for the T41P I upgraded.
