My 2378 FVU shipped from Hong Kong

#1 Post by GZheng12 » Mon Nov 15, 2004 11:30 pm

I can't imagine I was told by UPS that my new T42 2378 FVU was shipped from HK and is stuck in US custom for clearance now. I am curious where yours' TP is made?

I can't even wait for extra day to get my TP.
Regards,

Yigo

My 2373Q1U was also shipped from Hong Kong. It got to me in only two business days.

Practically everyone's ships from Hong Kong. Though, I have to admit that I have been wondering how on earth that can be a more economical solution than if they were to assemble the notebooks in HK and then bring over shiploads of them and do the final custom configuration before shipping out to customers here in the USA, Mexico, and/or Canada. I certainly understand it being cheaper to do the bulk of the assembly there, but I would just think that it would be cheaper to do large bulk shipments since as far as basic parts go lots of the notebooks are very similiar and only little things tend to change, such as Wifi, Optical drive, RAM installed, things of that nature. But, I am sure they have run the numbers and this must make financial sense to them for some reason.

Yeah, IBM's est. ship dates are all over the place. My 2379-R9U was ultimately supposed to ship out on the 22nd of this month but I got an e-mail stating that they shipped it out on Sunday. I tracked it from Hong Kong to Kentucky but it seems that it's stuck in customs. Regardless, the delivery date is the 16th, meaning today. I really hope this goes through.

I think I have the best story ever about ship dates. I bought my notebook last Wednesday (the 10th) and it gave an estimated ship date of the 15th. Then on Thursday (the 11th) I got an email saying that my shipment was backordered and wouldn't be shipped until the 29th!!! Then on Friday (the 12th) I got an email saying my order had shipped. So, putting any faith in anything other than the actual ship date would be unwise and would lead to prematurely graying hair due to stress over the roller coaster of dates they throw out.

As a note: I got my notebook yesterday, the 15th. So I am a super happy camper right now :D
