Cannot turn wireless off?!?

#1 Post by aboveliquidice » Fri Dec 07, 2007 10:59 am

Hey guys - I have a small config problem that has been annoying me.

I cannot turn my wireless on or off... which I think is very strange.

My wireless works fine - but recently (since getting my 4-cell battery) I have been concerned with maximizing battery life. Controlling when wifi is on/off is a really good way to do so.

Issue:

I have ACPI power management, video drivers, hot key drivers installed.

I also have my regular wireless drivers installed - but thinkvantage access connections thinks my wireless radio is off - however, if I hit fn + f5, it says it turns everything on... (despite the fact I can surf before and afterwards). Regardless of what I push, the wifi light is still on - am I missing something???

I have had some Fn-F5 issues in the past, they went away by re-installing the ACPI driver.

There are a few threads with different solutions to similar problems -- look for "Fn-F5" -- that's where I found the solution to my problem. Most of them revolve around the WLAN power setting not showing up on the hotkey menu.
