Oh No....T42 LCD powers off!

#1 Post by cantsleepcatswilleatme » Fri Dec 07, 2007 3:58 pm

not sure how to explain. the screen blacklight powers off and I can't see anything on the LCD except a faint image.

I do Fn+F3 and it'll come back on for a bit, but then goes right back off......the time it takes to go back of varies.

is this a driver issue, or a hardware issue?

I really can't buy a new laptop right now.....can someone please help me?

Not really. :P I've been down that road before. It was a disaster.

Might I suggest that you take this guy up on his offer:

It's not too difficult of a job if you are familiar with dismantling LCD's.
One problem I had was keeping the new lamp in one piece during soldering as it easily snaps. So I lightly scotch taped the lamp to the tube it came in, which left both my hands free. The other problem was the color temprature of the lamp, it was slightly different than the original; more blue but still usable, and certainly better than nothing at all.
