R50e new hard drive
R50e new hard drive
I'm looking to upgrade my current R50e thinkpad hard drive.
Would any hard drive fit my laptop? Or does it have to be some IBM drive.
Moreover, which interface fits this laptop?
I'm thinking about purchasing this one:
http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products ... anguage=en
Is it any good for me?
What hard drive manufacturer would you recommend for laptops?
Many thanks.

It'll work just fine. Most EIDE 2.5 inch drives will work, just not the older thicker drives.
As for brands, you will get a million opinions on that. Everyone has a brand they love and a brand they hate based on their personal experience.
Most Thinkpads come with Hitachi or Fujitsu drives in them. WD's are OK drives.

You can do that by cloning.leonid wrote:Thanks,
One more thing. How do I get my windows with all its settings over to the new hard drive assuming I can back everything up on some server or cds?
Create a image of existing hard disk
Burn the image on DVD media's.
And restore it on new hard disk drive
Or little hectic way is to >
Install fresh Windows XP with drivers etc
Put old hdd in to external USB casing and connect
Copy your data back
I did the same. I upgraded my hdd to 80 gb Hitachi 5400 RPM hdd.
Bought external laptop hdd casing for 5 US$ and using old hdd as external USB drive.

You should be able to burn a set of recovery CDs from your current HDD.
Also, you can clone your existing HDD on the new one using Acronis or a similar cloning program.
Hope this helps.
