Easiest way to setup a 2nd T61 15.4"?

#1 Post by eecon » Sun Dec 09, 2007 5:25 pm

I'm planning to order a second T61 15.4" CTO WinXP Pro with the same options listed below in my signature line, except I'm getting the NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M (but staying with WSXGA+ 1680x1050 which is now available on the T61p without requiring the higher WUXGA screen). I'm also bumping up the HD to the newly available 160GB 7200RM unit.

Otherwise this new T61p should nearly identical to my T61 (hopefully). I'm going to keep both units (one docked at home and one docked at my office).

I'd like to clone my current T61 settings and files over to the new T61p without a lot of hassle .... Is System Migration Assistant my only option.?

Or, if I buy addltional licenses from all the software I have on my current T61, can I simply clone my current T61 HD over to the new T61p HD by first removing it to an external 2.5" USB enclosure and using something like Acronis True Image? I think the NVIDIA FX570 uses the same drivers as the NVIDIA 140M.

Thanks for any advice or help.

Software licenses aside, copying the entire drive using Acronis will be the easiest and comprehesive way route to migrate data, program and settings. In case you run into issues with display driver, you can always uninstall the driver on the source machine before cloning the disk such that windows uses generic VGA driver on the target machine.
