I may be wrong here, since I didn't read up much about Dothans, but isn't Dothan a 479-pin CPU as well? I think you may be referring to a regular Pentium 4, which has 478 pins. That would NOT fit into a T41. But a Dothan (which I believe has 479 pins, and again, someone can correct me) WILL fit into a T41.

I know that because I have seen several successful posts on this forum about upgrading Banias (first gen Pentium M) CPUs to Dothan (second gen Pentium M) in T4x. Hope this helps!

none is correct. You CAN upgrade to any Dothan processor (Up to the 765) in a T41. Check out this Intel web site

http://www.intel.com/performance/mobile ... onfigc.htm

Look under Table 4. They swaped processors. A T41p with a 1.7GHz Banias core was replaced by a 2GHz Dothan core. Chipset and BIOS are the same. It will work.

They reference a T30 in that table, but it wasn't clear to me that they upgraded it. I have a client with some T30 2367 Laptops. P4 Mobile 2GHZ machines. I see from the maintenance manual that the CPU can be reasonably easily removed. Can that CPU be upgraded? I don't think so, but I am not sure. Any help would be appreciated. ... JDHurst

The T30 is easily upgraded to a P4M 2.6GHz, it's a straight drop-in.

The fly in the ointment is the cost! It's rare to find a 2.6GHz CPU for less than $500.

I actually mean the 478 Pentium M 755.

Wherever you check (zipzoomfly, newegg, etc.) it says 478 pins.

Though I recall reading somewhere that the 479M accepts 478 processors. Or simply the retail M's with 478 pins fit into the 479M sockets of notebooks (thinkpads in this case).

Can anybody confirm it or enlighten this subject a bit?

You can, according to an article in laptop magazine, upgrade a banias processor to a dotham. The chipsets are basically the same. You Can't , however upgrade from a P-4M to a P-M (different chipsets).

Hopes this helps. 8)
