Really weird wireless problem
Really weird wireless problem
Let me start with my configuration:
T61, 4965AGN with the latest driver from Intel 11.5.
The T61 has been wiped out clean and installed Vista Ultimate.
But weird things are happening now. Some websites don't seem to work with either Firefox or IE. They work for a while and then they just stop working, and this is the case with big sites like Google for example.
Basically, it just doesn't connect to them, so I have to turn on and off the Wi-Fi and then everything works again for a while.
I've tried this at work and home, so I know it's not the router. Any ideas? I am using the Windows Wireless software, but I also tried Access Connection as well and same thing.

Personally speaking, I'd get an Atheros mPCI card.
Atheros cards at Lenovo
Something like this would work(same part I have in my T61P), but check for part# / model compatibility at the above link

Look, for $37 bucks shipped it's a cheap solution and the range will be better. If it doesn't work sell it for $40. Ask me what kind of mPCI card has been in every thinkpad I've owned, and I'll tell you it's Atheros, including my new T61/P. As far as diagnostic's for the Intel card, you can try PC-Doctor. I'm not 100% sure if it has a WIFI diag or not. If it were me I'd pop in a knoppix CD and see if it fails there. You can reinstall XP or try messing with Vista drivers, uninstalling/reinstalling the WIFI driver....try installing the driver directly from Intel, etc.
I am running that same intel card with what I believe are the latest approved LENOVO Intel drivers which are 11.1.1.16 with no problems. Suggest you try using the Lenovo drivers before giving up on the card.
Also, if the machine is under warranty and the card was part of the original configuration, Lenovo/IBM will most likely happily send you another (same Intel) card if they think there is a hardware problem with your card.

Not at all. There is nothing to indicate you wont have exactly the same problems with an Atheros card.horatiub wrote:wow, so I guess I should've bought the Atheros card from the beginning.
The symptoms you have described are more likely to be with something other than the WiFi card hardware.
Cheers,
Bill

It seems to be working a little better, but I noticed that Firefox is the one causing more problems. Once in a while the web pages will get stuck when I try to refresh, so then I basically have to close down firefox, and sometimes turn on/off the Wi-FI. But in the same time, if I open an IE7 , it works perfect.
