R51 1829-L7G: Display is black and no startup...

#1 Post by junky » Mon Dec 10, 2007 7:59 am

Hello,

I got the following problem with my 2004 R51.

If I want to start the system the power led will be green and the cpu fan is running. But the system will not boot at all.

There is also no activity an the harddisc. So I think, that the display isn't out of order.

What is the mistake here?

The Thinkpad support told me, that the mainboard is defective.

If that is really the truth, there is no way to get the unit working again for only a view dollars?

Thank you

Find someone who has a bootable CD (Linux or Windows - it does not matter). Try to boot the machine with the bootable CD. If it boots, the basic computer is OK and there is a hard drive problem of some sort. If it will not boot from a bootable CD, there is probably a computer problem (like motherboard). ... JDH

I can't boot any device because the system doesn't recognize any system part at all. It has to be a major problem, because I tried to replace the RAM and the CPU with parts of my another R51 and it also didn't work.

I think it is the mainboard and the ATI GPU on it.
