Two independent external monitors on port replicator

#1 Post by exTPfan » Mon Dec 10, 2007 9:59 pm

According to some posts I've seem, some people seem to be able run two independent external monitors using a port replicator on a T42.
I would like to know how. However I connect them, and reboot etc., I can only get one external monitor recognized plus the LCD on the notebook.
I have a T42 with Radeon 9600 with 64MB, and I want to run a 1600x1200 plus a 1680x1050 simultaneously --- as I mentioned, one by one is no problem. I have installed the latest ATI drivers.
Work: T42p (XP, UXGA IPS); T60p (XP, UXGA IPS); T60/61 FPad (Win 7, UXGA IPS).
Play: X1 (first gen, Win 7); T450s (Win 7).

I haven't tried and I don't know for sure, but I would guess that in order to get 2 external monitors working, you would need one of the big docks with the slot for another video card. If you want one of those, I have one that came with a machine that I bought. I have not tested it, but I was told it works. Send me a private message if you want it (very cheap).

If you're connecting one through DVI and one through VGA, it should work, provided that you disable the Thinkpad LCD. I have successfully run such a configuration on both my T42 and T60 with their respective mini-docks (which are inbetween the port replicator and the advanced docks that have there own video cards).

This is correct and easier than using a card in the dock. I've been able to get both to work. You do need to turn off the LCD.

The VGA on the laptop outputs the same signal as the VGA on the dock.

Thanks --- I finally got the computer to recognize both external monitors by starting it in the port replicator with the lid closed. Nothing else seemed to work.
