pc3200 (200 mhz DDR) in T42, possible?

#1 Post by Nicola » Tue Dec 11, 2007 1:17 pm

When I will buy my ideal ThinkPad, I will ascend 512 mb of sdram pc3200. The new memory has the smallest chip (except for dissipation of heat) and except for consumptions.

Obviously it will work to 133 or 166 mhz (even if to 100).
Have you tested this ram in the T4X? The computer works?

Yes T42s will take the PC3200 DDR memory. I don't think you should really care about the consumption of memory chips. What you need is a low frequency CPU, a 5400RPM hard drive and a Panasonic 9 cell battery IMO.

Both 1GB sticks in my T42 are PC3200 and work without any problems whatsoever.

The native RAM for a T42 is PC2700 which runs at 166MHz. So if you put PC3200 in a T42 it will also run at 166MHz. The advantage to using it is that it 'may' be cheaper to purchase.

aside from stating 200 pin DDR2 PC3200 memory, will any 1GB or 2 GB make work in a T42? what other specific details identify compatible memory?

Also, can PC3200 memory in the optional location coexist with PC2700 memory in the standard location?

Both Kingston; not too sure about the model, but I'll check it later on today.

Which 3200 memory works in a T42, PC3200 DDR or PC2-3200 DDR2 memory? The price of PC2-3200 DDR2 memory is half of that for PC3200 DDR

DDR2 will not work - only DDR.

Carlos, I actually have RAM made by a company called TMTc (I have Kingstons in my Z60m and confused the 2). The code on the sticker on each stick says RDSD6408-50A. Seems to be more or less a generic type, but it seems to work well in my machine.
