Help with Trackpoint Problem

#1 Post by dbarnwell » Wed Dec 12, 2007 10:40 am

ThinkPad 600X 2645-9FU PIII 650MHz (256KB) 64MB RAM 12.0GB 13.3 XGA TFT 1024x768 24X-10X DVD/CD-ROM, Win XP.

Trackpoint cannot be controled with red button, will track up and down the screen. Additionally, only work with serial mouse ( and sometime it will not follow serial mouse after you hit the G key).

Also when you hookup a PS2 mouse the pointer will not move, acts like no mouse it installed.

Also sometimes get error code 8611 on bootup. But if you hold down the red button on the built in tractpoint and restart it will boot up fine.

Is there a rubber o-ring seal and the base of the trackpoint button?

Any suggestion on how to fix this problem?

Order a new keyboard off ebay today.. Does anybody have instruction on how to get the laptop case apart. I found the instruction for R&R of the keyboard.

Thanks

The TrackPoint has no moving parts. It uses a piezoelectric strain gauge to determine how hard it is being pushed.

The easiest and maybe cheapest way to fix the TrackPoint and your 8611 error (which indicates your faulty TrackPoint) is to replace the keyboard module. You can get used ones on eBay.
