Switching video on external keyboard

#1 Post by newsomer » Wed Dec 12, 2007 11:40 am

I have have had this T42 and port replicator for two years now and it has worked like a real champ. I have the port replicator hooked up to a Keyboard/Video/Mouse (KVM) switch. Much of the time it works as expected. But, occasionally if I use the KVM to switch to another system and return to the T42 it has switched itself to its local LCD screen. My current fix is to open it up and close it to put it into standby, wait a few seconds and hit the power button to wake it up and it realizes it is connected to an external monitor. This may be hard on the laptop so I would like to know if there is a key sequence that I can use from a _standard_ keyboard (no IBM "fn" key) to switch active monitors. I believe the keyboard and mouse are active when this happens so if I can just hit a couple of keys to switch active video I'll be back in operation without the delay and wear and tear on the T42.

Fn+F7 can be used on the Thinkpad keyboard to switch video inputs. Using the keyboard customizer utility, you can map a function combination to do the same on any external keyboard.

I think that will do the trick! I'll have to wait until I am away from it for a time to test it completely but I believe it'll do the trick.

Thanks again.
