600E CD Bios update

I remember a that someone created a CD BIOS update for the 600E series, does anyone have the link? I cannot find it!

Type # 2645-8AU

I hope that with the BIOS update the 600E recognize the whole the two 8 chips 256mb rams that i have installed.

A BIOS update will not allow high density RAM to work in that machine. It's a hardware limitation.

But there are 600E's w/ 256mb+256mb+32mb on board rams installed.

I had two in the past.

He didn't say 256 MB modules would not work - they do if they are low density. Those are the ones with 16 chips, not 8.

I do not recall seeing a link to an actual CD iso/image but here are a couple links to a couple attempts at describing how to do this.

This is not something that should be undertaken lightly. If you attempt to upgrade your BIOS and fail, you can leave your Thinkpad in an unusable state that requires the replacement of your motherboard.

I have never attempted to do this, and I cannot comment on whether or not these threads provide accurate information. Having stated all that, here are two threads to check out:

In fact it was my mistake the rams have 16 chips, 8 on each side.

Bios update without a battery.

Had anyone ever succesfully used the "1Byte Hack" method?

It is described on a German Thinkpad Forum and is based on the replacement of one Byte in the updtflsh.exe file using a Hexeditor , thus avoiding the checking of the battery by the Flashprogram.
