Thinkpad 240x problems.

I just aquired a Thinkpad 240x; the little 10.1" 500mhz p3 with 128mb ram and a 20gb hard drive. Start it up, windows xp is on there, but it won't load entirely. Once it reaches the end of the XP boot screen, it just restarts.

Hard drive problem? I just put it into my A31 and it will not install windows (missing files). No problems at all with the disk, I've used it before. Now, I have no spare laptop hard drives to test, but does this sound like what the problem is?

Your hard drive isn't bad. Sounds like XP is still installing, is running into a conflict and is trying to reassign IRQ's or Memory Addresses with a reboot.

Two things you can check. Check your BIOS settings (use "Auto" where you can) and reboot after making changes. Press F8 right after the IBM Logo screen. That will give you the XP boot menu screen where you can choose "Safe Mode".

Do you have an external cdrom or floppy drive for the 240X?

It could also be that the original owner installed XP in a different laptop or desktop, then simply put the drive into the 240,
now on boot up XP is having problems finding the correct hardware. There could also be problems with the XP license as well.
I think the only way to resolve this is to reinstall XP from your 240.
