You can also perform Custom Factory Restore.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

Anyone know if its possible to start the clean install process and get to the point of seeing the applications I can exclude and then cancel out of install?.

or

does someone have the list of items one can exclude if I can;t start the process and backout.

Also, with a clean install - are all the drivers installed to the point of where they were originally. I know I need to do ms and lenovo update anyway - but as long as I get back to where I started just with fewer craplets as someone else calls them.

I just got my X61S and am wondering the same thing. I was amazed at how much stuff was running when I first booted up. 78 processes and over 600mb of page filing just upon bootup. That's twice what my other laptop and desktop run (all xp-pro)!

Are there any good threads I should reference regarding what is useful and good to keep and what should be scrapped?

There are a lot of programs you can disable so that they don't run at startup. There are programs that help you to do this. I use Windows Live OneCare and that has such a feature.

New one

My new one arrived today, the MT/MV. Looks like a stuck pixel just off center.

Funny that the MT/MV screen has a different FEEL to it than the SXGA+ screen. Seems like there is some MOVEMENT of material on it? Is that normal?
