Any rumours of a new tablet model?

#1 Post by zephyr » Thu Dec 13, 2007 3:32 am

Is there any news of a successor to the X61t? The Lenovo 25% holiday sale plus the 15% off e-coupon makes the baseline X61t model about $1250, which is awfully enticing.

Too bad the sales end Dec 19. I would like to know what Apple has in store at their Jan 15 Macworld expo. There are some rumours Apple may introduce a super-light Macbook (but not a tablet).

Sorry don;t know,

But discounts are actually: Lenovo 25%, Ecoupon 20% tablets and 4% cash back. 13.333% on T series an 4% cash back

My X61T - $1500 shipped incl ca tax(nomally about $2425.00)

SXGA+ (very nice - just have to make a few font adjustments-very bright too! more than my T60 15" flexview))

L7500(1.6, L2-4MB, 800 FSB)
Xp tablet 2005
2 Gig
100MB. 7200
Bluetooth
Wirelss N
8 cell
2 year depot

***One note - By buying thru ecoupons you don;t get the IBM logo. Just says thinkpad which is the way it is coming from resellers. That was not expected in that I purchased from the lenovo site although thru the ecoupn link.

Oh - and the final bonus was the bill me later option - 6 months.

.
Now that's an interesting comment. Are you saying that the machines shipped to resellers are different than if you order retail through lenovo.com? Do you have any proof of this? I think that all Thinkpads currently being manufactured have the 'Thinkpad' vs. IBM logo.

At MacWorld Expo, Apple mostly limits the launch to press release and the actual products gets out in the market only after 5-6 months later. You can also expect to see next refresh cycle of lenovo products at that time.

Intel is going to announce it's 45nm CPUs for mobile platform on Jan 6th (or 8th? I don't remember). From what I read, there will be no big changes, no new chipset, just a new line up of CPUs. Switching from 65nm to 45nm, the main benefit will be less heat and longer battery life.

It is almost surely that there will be a new line up of thinkpads to accomodate this line up of new CPUs. T61->T62, X61->X62, etc. This is also the reason why Lenovo has been making such a huge discount on thinkpads for more than a month. I remember this happened also before the announcement of Santa Rosa.

Since only the CPU has change, I guess Lenovo will just stick the new CPU onto the old board and call them 62 series, instead of 70 series. I am sure that this will be case for the X series, since some of the new features that we keep on imagining to appear on the new X series are either too expensive or not mature enough to implement at this moment (SSD, LED display, etc)

So I am sure that there will be a X62T in Jan with 45nm CPU but with no big change beside that (capacitive touch as well, may be?...).

But the strange thing is that, on a blog of a Chinese guy, who claimed to be a Lenovo engineer, he said that there will be a lot of new features and changes on the T62 and that makes him wonder why doesn't Lenovo call it T70 instead. He claims that the T62 will be the combination of T4x and T6x, something like that.

Yes, I read that on this forum somewhere(thinpad forum) I believe. I am sorry I can't recall the thread. I just remember that if it was a reseller, you don't get the IBM logo.

Also, My t60 ordered in June of 07 has the IBM logo and I ordered it direct.

You might lob it out to the group as a new post if you can;t confirm with a quick search.

You can always change the sticker yourself

thats interesting.

Their does appear to be an option for the x series, but not sure how the sticker will line up with the cavity already created. Perhpas that will not line up, but looks like you could certainly paste the sticker on top.

I'll take a closer look later.

I ordered direct from Lenovo Canada on 8 Nov with no e-coupons (I don't know if they even work in Canada). My machine did not have an IBM logo, just "Thinkpad" on the cover and "Lenovo" inside.

Uhm...

Well on my x61T, the cavity space is like this:(small space on right side - forum messes with alignment.)
___________
I
___________I
I_______l

The top says Thinkpad, bottom space says xseries - not a sticker..

it looks like it could work, but it would be dang close. The sticker seems reverse of what I would need. Ex: The IBM logo would fit in top space, but the word thinkpad would seem to be a tight fit.

Just have to try it.

they fit just fine.   the "IBM ThinkPad" decal and "ThinkPad _series" decals are the same size as long as you get the correct size for an X versus a T/R/Z.

i can break out the digital calipers and a few official IBM logos and take photos if necessary.   my T61p has IBM logos and my X61 has ThinkPad logos.
