R60i 0657-LHC

#1 Post by Mr_Shadow » Thu Dec 13, 2007 4:26 am

I’ve got this one with Vista OS. I decided to install Windows XP, downloaded all necessary drivers and finally everything is OK except Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. I tried all possible drivers from imb.com but there are no unknown devices in Device Manager! Instruction for this notebook is in Chinese, I understood nothing in it. In BIOS everything is switched on. I found switch in front panel of notebook and hoped that devices will appear in Device Manager but nothing. What should I do?
Sorry for my English.

Make sure the Wireless switch on the front of the laptop is in the on position. Then on the keyboard, hit Fn-F5 and turn on WIFI and Bluetooth.

The Wireless switch on the front of the laptop was in the on position already. When I hit Fn-F5 and turn on WIFI and Bluetooth the message on the screen appears "No supported wireless adapters (802.1, WAN or Bluetooth) are installed in thia system"

You need the drivers from the manufacturer i.e. lenovo, Windows XP thinks it has all the drivers installed but it hasn't, to make the mentioned devices work you need packages from lenovo:

Drivers and software - ThinkPad R60

Please follow the explicit installation instructions on the driver pages and instead of installing "all possible drivers" for the NIC install only that correspond to your card.

Thank you for that URL but I downloaded all the drivers from this site already! All the drivers are from Lenovo not Microsoft. From that table I can see that it could be several types of wireless network card. What wireless LAN I have and which driver I must use I don't know. That's why I wrote down the type of my laptop in the theme of my topic.

And your machine type didn't tell which one you had.

Do a parts lookup:

Parts Lookup.

Or run a small 3rd party utility like Belarc Advisor to find out the manufacturer of your card.

Here is URL with detailed report:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... ubmit2.y=0

I can see there only this:
39T0494 0000000 MODEM, 56KB V.90:WIRELESS COMBO ADAPTERS YES
How should I understand this?

Are you sure your machine has wireless or bluetooth? It seems to me it is upgradeable. If you have purchased a wlan card, which one did you purchase?

I am not sure that my laptop has wireless and Bluetooth.
There are options in BIOS and switch in front panel, so I decided that laptop is equipped with that devices. My boss bought it in China, all instructions are in china, that's why I don't know it's specification.

You can buy a compatible card and add one though since the wireless is shown to be upgradeable for your model of the machine. However you would also need to add antenna cables.

Download the HMM and find the fru for the compatible cards:

Hardware Maintenance Manual - ThinkPad R60, R60e, R61, R61i.

Note that you can also see the compatible cards from the available drivers list in one of my posts.

Watch the removal and installation instructions:

Mini PCI Express Card removal movie - ThinkPad R60, R60e.

Mini PCI Express Card installation movie - ThinkPad R60, R60e.

The procedure should be thoroughly explained in HMM too.

The "wireless upgradeable" TPs which I have seen have all had the antenna cables in place, it's only the card which needed to be obtained.
