Opinions Wanted - What's it Worth? *Update*

#1 Post by NorrisCell » Fri Dec 14, 2007 2:06 pm

Looking for experienced opinions here. I recently purchased a T40 and it's time to sell my T30.

Specs are as follows:
T30 2366-61U
SL6VB 2.2 GHz P4 M
40 GB Toshiba 5400 RPM hard drive
2X256MB Ram
Wifi
Internal Bluetooth
DVD/CDRW Combo (See below)

Also included would be a 2nd hard drive adapter, 3.5" floppy drive, and additional battery (Emergency only. Charge is only about 40 mins).

Battery holds about 1.5 hr charge at idle. Both RAM slots work and do not have the infamous memory problem. All ports work.

The only issue with it is the combo drive. It will not boot to CD/DVD. Once in Windows, you must eject the drive and reinsert it, at which points Windows recognizes it and it functions flawlessly.

Any input is welcome. Thanks in advance.

EDIT 12/20 - It's funny. The computer won't boot to CD when I have the CD boot disabled in BIOS. Everything is running fine now.

I'd say about $200. If the display resolution were 1400x1050, it would be worth more.
Microsoft Surface 3 (Atom x7-Z8700 / 4GB / 128GB / LTE)
Dell OptiPlex 9010 SFF (Core i3-3220 / 8GB / 8TB); HP 8300 Elite minitower (Core i7-3770 / 16GB / 9.25TB)
Acer T272HUL; Crossover 404K; Dell 3008WFP, U2715H, U2711, P2416D; Monoprice 10734; QNIX QHD2410R; Seiki Pro SM40UNP

Since both ram slots work, it has the 2.2GHz CPU, and you are including extras...I'd say $225-250, shipped.

I agree
You could even swap in a 1.8 CPU (which is essentially worthless these days), sell it for the same $200-225, and sell the 2.2 Ghz on Ebay for $40 Buy it Now (at least I saw one on Ebay for that price recently)
I would buy the CPU for $30 or so, and send an exchange of a slower CPU!
PLEASE DO NOT PM
My handheld device can not access PM's and I will not respond.

That's actually what I was thinking. I know the CPU would probably go for more money on it's own. Same for the Bluetooth, but I don't know how much interest there would be.

I am finding more and more people that are passing on some of the older thinkpads that I have been selling locally, because they didn't come with BlueTooth. The funny thing is, some of these people don't even know WHAT Bluetooth is...because I asked them...they just knew that it was supposed to be the "latest and greatest". lol

Buy a couple of cheap USB Bluetooth dongles. When they make mention of it, pull one out and plug it in and say "there you go".

Already thought of that...but they wanted "built-in" so that they didn't have to deal with extra parts. It doesn't really matter because I could see the headaches that would be coming down the road, from their lack of PC knowledge...so, I stopped in my tracks, and sent them in the direction of a cheap new $299 laptop.

Most of these are the same people who won't buy any computer without Vista.

Of course these usually have low-end Celerons, 512MB RAM and Vista, so they are slower than Pentium II machines running XP!

I doubt it, because people on this forum are much more knowledge than Steve's local buyers. Are you 100% sure that the T30's SXGA+ can't be installed on the T42, using the T4* SXGA+ cable? I was told that impossible but I am not convinced. If you can swap the screens, that might help you sell both machines, by making the T30 even cheaper and the T42 better specced.

You've got to be kidding me,right? I would keep the T42 if it was sxga+..........

I don't think anyone has tried this swap. If you happen to have an extra SXGA+ cable for the T4*, have some free time and are willing to take some risk, it's worth a try.

Buyers in my area aren't very knowledgeable either, for example it's very hard to sell ultraportable laptops that don't have integrated optical drives. Thank God I don't have any more laptops to sell.

Won't work..I tried going in both directions. The LCDs are different, by way of the connectors.

Do you mean the T4* cable can't plug in at all? Or that the T4* cable is too short to reach the connector on the back of the T30 SXGA+ panel?

Yeah, both. The connectors are different in shape, and they are in different locations.
