How many FANs in 14'' T61P? strange sound around hard drive.

#1 Post by mike20030405 » Fri Dec 14, 2007 6:28 pm

With the tpfancontrol software, the major fan(under the left-top corner) can be totally stopped when I set the valve(don't know how to say it in tpfancontrol) to 0, but still strange sound comes from the right side(around hard drive). It is a continuous fan like sound, not so strong as the major fan, but still annoying. I am not sure if it is a fan, but I am sure it is not the hard drive kind sound(intermittently clicking).

Also, the power adapter keeps the mosquito sound.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

There are only 3 moving parts in your machine. One fan, one hard drive, and one optical drive. If you remove the optical drive and the noise is still emanating from the right side of the machine it is your hard drive. You can call Lenovo for a replacement AC adapter.

Harryc,

Thanks for your reply. Just notice you have almost the same type T61 as mine:-)
I will unplug the optical drive and see what is going on.

It could be an output from Intel's chipset:
