Very sweet deal! But unfortunately they don't ship across the border...

How does this compare to the current T61 models? Are the newer Core 2 Duos that much faster than the Core 2 Duo on this? The motherboard in my T40 just went belly up, and I might pull the trigger on this instead of trying to fix it.

Anything else to be aware of with the T60s? Does anyone have one of these models and have an opinion on it? My only real concern, other than the difference in the Core 2 Duos is the size of the unit with the 15" screen as compared to my 14" T40.

The T60 (CD) and T61 (C2D) are very comparable in performance. You'll probably will never notice a difference in performance between the two. Between them, the C2D can run 64-bit code (i.e., Vista 64-bit) while the CD cannot.

The T60's cpu is upgradable to C2D. I did this upgrade and am now running Vista 64 on my T60p.

My coworker has a 15.4" T60 and it's much wider than the 14.1" T4*. This particular T60 (WSXGA+, 2x1GB RAM, 6-cell, internal optical drive, without AC adapter) weighs 5.73 lbs, about 0.7 lbs heavier than the T40. Another thing I don't like is it looks disgusting!
Microsoft Surface 3 (Atom x7-Z8700 / 4GB / 128GB / LTE)
Dell OptiPlex 9010 SFF (Core i3-3220 / 8GB / 8TB); HP 8300 Elite minitower (Core i7-3770 / 16GB / 9.25TB)
Acer T272HUL; Crossover 404K; Dell 3008WFP, U2715H, U2711, P2416D; Monoprice 10734; QNIX QHD2410R; Seiki Pro SM40UNP

RonS: These are the specs- it says it comes with the Core 2 Duo, and not a Core Duo, so is this a 64-bit processor?

Intel Core 2 Duo processor T7200 (2.0GHz, 4MB L2, 667MHz FSB)
Genuine Windows XP Home Edition
15.4 WSXGA+ TFT (1680x1050 resolution)
ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 128MB
1 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory (2 DIMM)
Integrated fingerprint reader
UltraNav (TrackPoint and TouchPad)
60GB 80GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm
CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo 24X/24X/24X/8X Max, Ultrabay Slim
Integrated 1Gb Ethernet
Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG
6 cell Li-Ion Battery

Piano- I agree that the T6* is not as nice as the T4*. I like the look of the T4*, especially in the front lip area. I took a look at a T61 tonight and while the build quality seems as good, if not better than on the T4* (the LCD hinges on the T61 are twice as big as on the T40), but the asthetics just aren't the same. Oh, decisions decisions.

Yes - if it has a Core 2 Duo, you're ready for 64-bit.

The current T60 8743CTO deal does have Vista Ultimate listed as an available $149 OS option. It's packing a T7200 C2D CPU BTW.

I think I am pulling the trigger on the T60 CTO deal. It seems too good to pass up, even with the larger size and questionable looks. They are offering 4 years of Thinkpad Protection for $5 more than 3 years, so I think this is probably the best deal out there for a while.
