Intel Graphics - Causing black screen - X61T What are these?
Re: X61T, XP
During the final load of my desktop, my screen goes black for 1/2 second and resumes normal blue desktop.
Another forum poster indicated that 2 Intel graphics applets are getting loaded and can contribute to this. I tested this by going into msconfig and turning off the 2 files:
igfxtray
igfxpers
This did resolve the issue. Anyone know what these 2 files are? but, now I get a popup every boot about how I changed MS Config.
Do I need these files?
How do I take them out of the preload path to make msconfig happy and not delete them in case I need them.
I could try re-installing the graphics driver. I do have the latest version already btw.
One thing - I am coming form a fresh factory custom install from hd partition of preload, but I first had to do a recovery from disk prior to this as the original HD recovery files had a bad image.

The easiest way to avoid the popup is to use another program, besides MSconfig, to stop and remove the 2 files from loading at startup. CCleaner works very well as does Autoruns. My impression is that the functionality provided by these two files is also duplicated by the Intel Graphics applet which is located in Control Panel.
Along these lines, I would be interested in knowing how many of these start ups, like you mentioned, would be deemed as "worthless" to someone that is simply using XP, and doing typical non intensive type of work (using Excel, Word, Outlook, etc) that might not require many of these programs to run on start up.ducky2802 wrote:You can delete the registry entries for those two programs and get the same results. They are located on Hklm software microsoft Windows current version run, along with many more start up applications.
My screen was doing the same thing and I removed it.
Thanks for the help.
hehe... it all depends on how much functionality you wish to keep. Luckily, I learned a few things along the way. Before starting, find the run folder as I mentioned and go to file, export, and save your run entries. Itll save them as a registry file (that you can just click later to restore them all, in case anything goes wrong). Typically, deleting run entries will not cause a system failure (at least, none that Ive seen on the thinkpad).
With that said, I safely deleted the two entries listed here, plus anything that says "update or scheduler", ie sunjava update thing cause if I really want to update, Ill do it myself, the 1 client security entry (has a value that says ss silent...if you dont use it), the "amsg" which eliminates the message center system try icon, the soundmax devices, and oddly enough, TPshocks (tp shock WORKS just fine without this entry, and you can still see the real time accelerometer working).
Wait til you try the services.msc command and you will see the remaining 60+ startup items!!!
I wont go into the details of this one, but a few I do disable right off the bat include:
remote registry (yeah, I dunno if its possible, but I do NOT want the possibility of remote computer to change my registry)
Anything auto update (e.g. windows updater)... again, if my computer is working just as I like and I really dont plan on changing it, I will update if/when needed.
Anything help (I learned XP help wasnt helpful, so I really dont need any help services from vista... plus, this forum is much more useful!)
Well, happy deleting and if you mess up, there is always RR recovery!
