T40 SXGA+ through DVI on external monitor - any updates?

#1 Post by SteveS » Mon Dec 17, 2007 7:25 pm

I need help with a old topic and post that did not resolve the issue
I have a couple of T40s with clean SXGA+ displays. I am trying to run them with an external monitor (ViewSonic VG2021m – 1400x1050 native resolution) through DVI on a Port Replicator II. The resulting display is larger than the screen, and scrolling is required to access items on the edge of the Windows desktop – such as the Start button. Right clicking on the desktop and verifying settings indicates that it is still operating in 1400x1050 resolution, but is in not really.

There was a good post describing the same symptoms:

http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... 50+dvi+t40

I will fill in a few facts I have verified:

1. The VG2021m does work fine with other SXGA+ T40 series. I use it with a T43 and T43P every day. Perfect mapping of the built in screen. I have also used it with a T42 SXGA+.
2. The Port Replicator II is NOT the issue. In all cased described in #1, I use the Port Replicator II.
3. A Mini-Dock II (type 2878) does not fix the problem. Exactly the same results as with Port Replicator II.
4. The latest video driver from Lenovo does not fix the issue.

I tried the DH Mobility Modder from the driverheaven web site on the Catalyst 6.11 driver downloaded from the ATI web site as suggested by a member.. Despite that I got a message indicating the driver was modified, I get the same results. I followed the Mobility Modder instructions listed on the driverheaven web site carefully, and did get a message the drivers we modified successfully. However I am not sure as it seams that program does not actually intsall the driver it modifies. However, when I look at the driver details in HW manager, I see that it lists version 6.14.10.6547 dated 2/6/2007.

I am about ready to give up and assume that the T40 does not actually support 1400x1050 resolution through DVI, although other members have reported success. Is there any recent success stories with this problem?

Do the other members who had it work have the same GPU as you?. I believe the choices for a T40 were the ATI Radeon 7500 and the ATI Radeon 9000.

Both of these T40s have Radeon 9000 GPUs.

Types: 2373-96U, and 2373-NU3

Upgraded to 1.8 GHz Dothan, 1 GB RAM, 100 GB-7200 RPM, and Intel PRO 2200 b/g.
