Ironically when I ordered mine business style it took three weeks. When I ordered it through the University program I got it in less than a week.

[censored]. That's a long time. The first one I ordered, arrived about a week or so later. Then, that one died, and my second one took about 2.5 weeks to arive. Then, my 3rd one was sent to me while I still had my first one, so there was no waiting...

Hopefully 3rd times a charm.

I ordered my t42p 3 weeks ago over a student discount reseller.
i rang the company up a few times so far and asked when i could expect the thinkpad to arrive.
As i rang them up today they told me that the notebook itself is avaliable since 1 week but unfortunatly my additional 1 GB Ram has not arrived yet so they are waiting for the additional Ram to arrive so they can install it and send it to me.

The problem is that i can't sleep since 3 weeks because i'm thinking of this [censored] thinkpad the hole time ;-).
[censored] i'm an thinkpad addict even before i actually have my thinkpad.
I have spend much of my time doing research on the unternet about th t42p and i have been looking for real cons of the t43p but haven't found anything so far.
it seams everyone is perfectly happy with their thinkpad.
i really hope it arrives soon.

Ah yes, I learned my lesson too ancient. I have come to conclude that ordering anything but a stock Thinkpad tends to take a lot longer to get out on the average. Which actually makese sense as their chain of building probably isn't optimized at all for making slightly different combinations. This is likely the result of the large number of stock configurations available. They probably figure that just about anyone can squeeze into any of the configs on the tabook and be happy and that those who add extra memory or other things like that are the exception--thus the long waits. Just a hypothesis. I have little to base that conclusion on, but it certainly seems reasonable enough.

I would say anyone looking to add memory should go to <insert favorite online vendor, mine is Newegg> and pickup the memory they want. It is usually cheaper than what IBM charges by a good deal.

Should expedite the order

#9 Post by GZheng12 » Thu Nov 18, 2004 12:54 pm

I got the same thing. I ordered on 11/8 from IBM website and the order status said the TP would be expected to be shipped on 12/8. On 11/11, I called IBM saying I could not wait for that long. Finally, they shipped my order on the same day and I received my order on 11/17.

Sometimes you've got to be strong for this matter.

I ordered my "in stock" one last spring, and it took three weeks--I guess by "in stock", they meant all the bits and pieces were in stock, in China. On the flip side, though, I sent the one I'm using right now in on Tuesday for a repair, and it came back this morning (Thursday)!!!! That's incredible.

I waited my whole life for my first ThinkPad... about 26 years.

I think when IBM or a vendor fails to deliver the notebook within 3 weeks they should give you some refund. I mean the value of the notebok in 2 months will drop significantly. My fvu arrived in 5 days, I was lucky, but since I had it 4 weeks now and I check the price, the price dropped $100. If you have not received your thinkpad for like 2 months and they charge your credit card you are actually getting screwed.

Bestbuy and many others do this. If within 30 days the price of the item that you bought drops then they will refund you the difference. This is because usually the return policy is 30 days and if your item dropped price then you could return the item, get a full refund and buy same item again.

When I bought my PS2 about 3 weeks later the price dropped like $50. I went to best buy with the receipt and they gave me $50 back.

I think anything over 3weeks for delivery is ridiculous...

I ordered my T42p nearly two weeks ago and last week my dealer confirmed that it should arrive next week.
