Memtest-86 v3.4 incompatable with T60p

#1 Post by DAH » Wed Dec 19, 2007 8:00 pm

It looks like the newest version of Memtest-86 v3.4 is incompatible with their T60p with 4 GB of memory. Just wondering if anyone else has found that Memtest86 v3.4 ISO image (zip) fails on their system?

Are you stating that it is incompatible because it fails on your system, or have you found other substantiated evidence on the net or elsewhere to prove incompatibility with a T60/P?

He's asking if anyone else with a similar system is experiencing the same issue.

I can read very well thank you :). I was referring to the OPs first statement about incompatibility.

Ah, after I posted that I thought to myself maybe the title could be a little more accurate to the OP's intention.

All previous version exclude about 66 M of memory, version 3.4 doesn't, and it appears to me to actually test the memory it is located in and to fail. Version 3.3 runs and finds no errors, as does version 1.74. So yes I'm asking if anyone else with a T60p and 4 GB of memory has Memtest-86 running. It will fail in the first pass, if I am correct. I've noticed that lots of people have been upgrading their memory lately.

I just tried it in a plain old 2007-C4U T60 to which I just added a 2gb module to make a total of 3gb. It fails in about 15 seconds. I'm about to try v3.3 and see how that goes.

I didn't even realize that they were still updating memtest86, and had been using an old version of memtest86+ before I read this post.

EDIT: I have tried version 3.3 and it works fine, although as you said, it is much slower than earlier versions. It took about 6 hours to do 2 passes with the 3gb installed.

Version 3.3 should run OK, it will take significantly longer to complete a pass than the older versions. I believe it does a much more thorough test than the older version, and you'll see that it reserves about 66M of memory that the newer Version 3.4 does not. Probing memory rather than using the e820-Std test also fails under Version 3.4.

Thanks for the feedback. :)
