ethereal not working on t42p

#1 Post by gcchatel » Thu Nov 18, 2004 8:40 pm

Hi, I am trying to see packets on the wireless lan that are not mine and I cannot seem to get ethereal to work in promiscuous mode. I have the atheros a/b/g card and when I pick promiscuous mode I see no packets although I know there are some. Any help? Thanks.

Ditto for me.

I have a regular T42 (2378-FVU) with the Intel 2200 card. Ever since I upgraded to AC 3.52 (and now 3.53) and my Intel drivers I can't see any packets.

Did you guys install the winpcap driver? I haven't used ethereal in a while now so I don't know about the new versions or anything but it might be worth while checking to see if they have newer winpcap drivers (if you haven't already installed them).

I posted a message on the forums, and here on the windows forum. I can't speak for the original poster, but I use ethereal for troubleshooting. I used it to look at why I wasn't able to log in to my university's PEAP network. I use it to analyze network traffic at home, etc.

It's a very useful program.

I had the same problem with my T40 and solved with Winpcap's 3.0 alpha or beta driver (not sure) a couple months ago. Now there is Winpcap 3.1b give a try. It will work.
