Thinking of a T22

#1 Post by New2Think » Sun Dec 23, 2007 11:20 am

I'm new to thinkpads, being a dell and compaq man. I'm thinking of getting a T22, 900Mhz. Probably from ebay, the bid prices are under $150 shipped from reputable sellers. The sellers offer 1 month warranties. This computer will suit my needs. I need something very reliable and a bit durable. It is a spare laptop for car diagnostics.

I'm reading though about serious problems with this line including whitespots in the display and BOD. These computers are probably almost 7 years old, I'm wondering if it is a reliable machine or should I look for something newer.

The d*LL (7000) I had was rock solid and seems to have few problems on the web. I'm sure IBM has a great product, but it seems there is some pronounced issues for this model.
thanks

hi
any of the early t-series seem to be rock solid machines. but, if your looking in the 150.00 range, i would go for a t-23. it uses ram thats easy to come by and cheaper. its also a faster machine.

A quick look at recent T23 sales seem to be north of $200 shipped. Especially with 256 ram and DVD. I'll keep it in mind though.

I guess even the best laptop will have some few and far between issues.

From my experience, the T2* isn't very durable. The bottom chassis flexes easily, and consequently many units have major cracks in the keyboard bezel. If you don't mind a slightly older machine, the 600X would be a much better choice as far as durability is concerned. The 600X is also a little more compact (smaller footprint), and it's easier to find one for under $150 shipped, too. It's true that they are almost 10 years old, but many still have excellent screens.
Microsoft Surface 3 (Atom x7-Z8700 / 4GB / 128GB / LTE)
Dell OptiPlex 9010 SFF (Core i3-3220 / 8GB / 8TB); HP 8300 Elite minitower (Core i7-3770 / 16GB / 9.25TB)
Acer T272HUL; Crossover 404K; Dell 3008WFP, U2715H, U2711, P2416D; Monoprice 10734; QNIX QHD2410R; Seiki Pro SM40UNP

Any PIII will do, I don't really need speed. I know about the durability of the 600 series but wanted something a bit more. The stresses that you mention may be what is causing the mobo issues requiring resolder. I'm probably going to look toward the 600 Series.
