Microsoft Complete Backup Failed: Insufficient space

#1 Post by frshakl » Sun Dec 23, 2007 1:46 pm

Until recenently, I was able to perform a Microsoft Complete Backup on my Vista Buisness ThinkPad Z61m. I now get an error that there is insufficient space to create a shadow copy.

After some research, I discovered this had to do with the creation of a restore point. From the System properties protection tab, I tried to create a restore point and the same error appeared. I used vssadmin tool to change the maxsize with no success. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to fix the problem?

Fred:

The space used for shadow copies and restore points is supposed to be self-managing. If it fills up then the oldest copy is supposed to be deleted to make room for new restore points.

If this isn't happening then you could try to turn off system restore on the drive and reboot. That should clear out the space reserved for restore points/shadow copies. Then turn system restore back on and create a new restore point. Maybe it will start working correctly.
