and they're just 8 labeled burnt CD's :) Not that I really care, but it's just a little funny. Was everyone else's recovery cd's like that?

How were they labeled? Mine are actually screen printed on, like most CDs, but it was just simple text. It wasn't like a sticker or anything.

Yeah, screen printed, but pretty crappy quality (jaggy edges).

I had a post about this a few months back. Kinda sucks, doesn't it? If I had known this, I would have burned my own copy and saved IBM the cost of Fed Ex'ing them to me. I wanted a factory copy so I could be reasonably assured of a clean burn and an archival life of more than a couple of years :/

IBM has provided the ability to create your own set (1 + 6) of recovery CD's..
for now, it is much like the former recovery set..

a couple of notes..

while the utility will only allow one copy, one can make a set and once made can recover from the HDD and then..
yes, you guessed it..
make another set.. :!:

don't use cheap CD's..
el cheapo brand CD's might not verify..
(witness the 6 or 7 unverified el cheapo white printable CD's littering the floor and embedded in the walls :x )

Recovery CDs

#7 Post by rablaw » Fri Nov 19, 2004 1:51 pm

To those more experienced in this than I-

Do the recovery CDs contain Win XP Pro?

Is it appropriate to upgrade any drivers, etc. before burning the recovery CDs? Does it make any difference?

Which media? CD-R or CD-RW?
Should they be formatted with a CD burner program such as Roxio beforehand?

Many thanks.

No, they do offer them. Just not for free, unless something happens to your computer during warranty. You have to pay $45 to have them send them to you.

NO! This is incorrect, at least when dealing with tech support from Atlanta, Georgia. I called and asked for them since it was within thirty days and was told they have officially changed their policy on this and you have to pay unless something goes wrong with the computer (hard drive failure, etc).
