can anyone recommended wireless adaptor using PCMCIA slot?
the reason why i am asking for a pcmcia slot based is because my t43 comes wiht only 2 usb ports. likely for a thumbdrive and some other peripherals.
so I am looking for a wireless adaptor to boost the range, speed and stability of the wireless signal as I am on wireless most of the time.

You should really try a couple of internal cards before switching to PCMCIA...I personally prefer Atheros ones, but many users like Intel better.
As for PCMCIA cards, I've been using Ralink RT2500 in a variety of machines and it has worked extremely well with my cheapo D-Link b/g router.
Good luck.

The internal card we are talking about here is the one that located underneath the palm rest. It can be easily accessed with some help of HMM (Hardware Maintenance Manual). I see you have a T43, so your choice would be pretty narrow: IBM/Lenovo branded Intel cards or Atheros cards. Their FRU numbers can also be found in the HMM.
May I ask what is up with your internal wireless card? Or else why do you want an external PCMCIA card? As other members have stated, internal cards usually get better signals

it's working fine just that i thought the newer PCMCIA ones by dlink, etc might boost the range of the wirelessulrich.von.lich wrote:The internal card we are talking about here is the one that located underneath the palm rest. You may try them but personally I don't think the performance boost, if there is any, will be significative. The internal card uses the antennas in the LCD assembly, that's why it usually gets better signal. However, there are some wifi amplifiers which can be used with some external antennas to boost the signal.Murcielago wrote:it's working fine just that i thought the newer PCMCIA ones by dlink, etc might boost the range of the wireless
You might want to take a look at this:
http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3334
However it's not a PCMCIA solution. The Buffalo card I recommended you is one of the few PCMCIA cards that have a signal amplifier inside and allow you to connect an external antenna. (which didn't help me at all in reality). Hope it helps!

Here are some photos:

I didn't find it a lot faster than the Intel 2200 B/G. It did seem to be more stable with my neighbor's network, but the Intel 2200 B/G could detect more networks. I can't explain why. Btw, I find the external antenna kinda helpless for some reason.
PS: I hope the 2 small photos are ok for the thread

@ Murcielago, here's a little trick I learned recently to avoid inserting a loooooong url and forcing readers to pan the page to read your post:
type: insert looooong url here[/b]]
then type a descriptor (e.g., "this" or "here" but can be anything)
and finally type:
So your big newegg url could be presented like:
this ??
Hover over "this ??" above and you should see the url at the bottom of your browser page (at least I do in Firefox). It takes a few extra seconds, but it makes reading posts somewhat easier. To test it out, click "edit" in the upper right corner of the post with the long url in it and give it a whirl.

Unless I am mistaken the Senao card is a "B" and will have less range and speed than a "G" card.
I used a Belkin G card similar product # to the 3rd one in my T22 and was satisfied with the range;but it still didnt do as well as the Internal WiFi in my now T41.

does the transmitting power has anything got to do with the range ?
the senao has twice the transmitting power of the Belkin
Wow.........makes me curious. If so ;I stand Humbly corrected.
The G standard is 54mbps as opposed to B standard of 11mbps though............that has always been a consideration for me.
