how many T30 are affected with memory slot failure? Is yours
I posted the last question about keeping my T23 or getting rid of it and upgrading to a T30.
I guess what I really want to know is how prelavant is the memory slot problem on the T30.
Are my chances better that I'm going to buy a good working machine or am I more likely to get one that has the memory slot problem.
what kind of percentage of these machines have problems?

Nobody can give you numbers, but if you check this post

and get the old calculator out, you should get an idea.
Mind you, the problem is concentrated in there. Deduct all posts from those without it, deduct all posts (over 1) from the same people, and you'll end up with a relatively small number of affected TPs, considering the huge quantity of T30s that's out there.
Also, an increasing number of T30s are being/getting fixed.
Even with that extra cost, it is still one heck of a ThinkPad!
What are your own chances to buy a lemon of a car, considering the millions of new cars every year?

I have had two T30s.(Soft spot for T30s) The last one had the problem, the current one does not. Current one did not have a trackpad until I changed the palmrest. I honestly don't know if this info helps or just further complicates things. Tom

I've had dozens of T30s and none of them had the slot problem.
However, I've had an A31p with 1.8 processor with this issue, leading me to believe that the problem is not unique to T30, but stretches through other laptops of the same generation.

You guys might think that Im crazy, but im going to keep my T23 and sell the T30 back.
Now that I have worked on it for a couple of days, there are some other things i like about my old machine.
To me, the T23 is lighter, thinner, and quieter. As for speed they both appear the same to me for my purposes. I've got 512mb of RAM on the T23 and it feels just as snappy as the T30 with 1gb RAM. I understand that the T30 needs a lil tweaking like My T23.
I use the T23 for surfing, email, GPS car navigation, DVD movies, And burning and ripping CD's. its quit the workhorse.
The T30 will be going back up on ebay soon.

I don't think your crazy at all, go with what your comfortable with. The T30 is a bit thicker and heavier. I have a T23 and it is a sweet little machine. I would suggest that next time you feel the urge to upgrade you look at the T40-41-42-43 machines. In the 14" screen size you would have the same feel as the T23 and in the 15" you can find one with a flexview screen.

Plus, the T30 isn't really any faster than the T23 especially when it's processor is below 2 ghz. Another downside is that the mobile Pentium 4 in the T30 produces a ton of heat.
Anyway, I would seriously consider going with either a cheap T40 or a T42/ T43 with a warranty. You get so much more with a T40, it is crazy. Bluetooth, wireless, touch pad, 32 mb ati 7500 (much better driver support), newer screen, etc. Really, a T40 isn't much more expensive than a T23.
