My battery can only store 48% of its fully charged capacity?

#1 Post by chengusky » Wed Dec 26, 2007 8:02 am

Mine machine is T43.

Suddenly, there is a black warning sign on the right side of the power bar.

It saids "You battery can only store 48% of its fully charged capacity".

Why? After I click and go into the Power Management screen. It saids the battery is in "good" condition.

Anything I can do?

You can run the battery calibration procedure. If the battery is indeed good, the software will readjust itself to reflect the good battery.
BUT..
If the battery is indeed bad, it may not recharge to even 48%.

Depending on battery age, number of recharge cycles, length of time on AC with the AC charging, charge settings, ect.. the actual life and performance of the battery can be adversley affected. There are people with very few charge cycles and a completely dead battery, and some with very high numbers of recharge cycles and a battery still running strong.

What maintenance have you REGULARLY done on the battery?
What are your power management settings?

I have used the PowerManager to reset the Battery Gauge.

However, now it's just saying that my battery can store 58% of the fully capacity.

I doubt my battery is having some problem.

Normally at work, when my battery is 100% charged, I will first used the battery to about 5% left (normally 2 hrs) and then plug the A/C in for the remaining working time (normally 7 hrs).

This is the first time I use the Battery Gauge to reset the battery. I seldom do the battery maintenance. My T43 only use around 1 yrs. recharge cycle count is 367. The schema setting is "Max performance". Low battery alarm on 10% and critical battery alarm on 5%.[/img]

It's time for a new battery!

If mains power is available, use it. There is no point in using your battery when you don't need to.

As you have a T43 and can set the charge parameters..... once you have a new battery, for normal use set the power manager parameters to not recharge until the battery gets to below ~80% and then to only recharge to ~95%.

Cheers,
