International Warraty in Europe (Portugal)

#1 Post by arlab » Wed Dec 26, 2007 1:28 pm

Greetings.
Just bought a Thinkpad from the USA. The problem's that I live in Portugal (Europe).

Is the warranty still effective there? In Lenovo's site they say that International warranty is just for USA, Australia and some Asian countries...

MOD EDIT: Moved to appropriate forum.

If the machine is not listed on the IWS page for your country, then there is no chance it's covered. Even if it were listed, you'd have to double check with the servicing country to make sure. Lately there seems to be some confusion with the IWS rules as they apply to US bought machines.

Yes, the machine isn't listed for Europe (6459 -> T61p 15").
What am I going to do now? I had 5 years warranty :-(

The (2) choices as I see them;
1.) Sell the machine to someone in the US for (hopefully) around what you paid for it and get a machine with a warranty that works in Portugal.
2.) Keep it and hope for the best.

Unfortunately, I can't find the Thinkpad I want in Portugal :/
I'll give the PC a try. Let's hope nothing happens.

The only solution lenovo suggests is:
lenovo wrote:In cases where the country may not have the ability to service a particular model, service may be provided on a "best effort" basis and some fees or restrictions may apply. An alternative would be to attempt to obtain service under IWS in a neighboring country listed for the machine in question.
I always suggest folks to do their homework about warranty before buying an expensive equipment such as a new notebook.
