T40p artifact-ing & other visual anomalies

#1 Post by macmac » Wed Dec 26, 2007 2:48 pm

Hi all.

I was doing some gaming for 30-40 minutes yesterday and suddenly I started getting artifacts, slight at first but then complete screen tearing.

Exited the game, and the desktops also had issues, either 25-ish multi-coloured vertical lines (broken up, not solid) or/and a rainbow matrix-like effect in the background.

It seems to come and go. If I stare at my wallpaper the anomalies are there, but if I load internet explorer there are maybe a handfuls are multi-coloured dots here & there, and sometimes the 12-ish lines.

Also, the dots and lines can be altered if I drag a window over them.

I'm guessing it has to be a GPU issue right?

From your description, I would have to say "yes". More (actually, lots!) of info can be found here:

Thx for the reply.

From reading the thread, I do seem to have similar issues, however thankfully it doesnt freeze if I move it, nor if I pick it up from the left corner.

I guess I should nonetheless be extremely thankful this is happening now since my T40p(unlike most I would imagine) still has EZServe warranty until February 23 2008 :)

It will be interesting to see whether they have any T40p motherboards in stock, because I need a workstation-class GPU(& drivers) to work with certain 3D modeling programs.
