Audio out?

#1 Post by GZheng12 » Fri Nov 19, 2004 10:20 am

My new T42 2378 FVU only has two audio jacks: one for mic and one for headphone. Does anyone know how to connect to the desktop speakers since the built-in speakers are too weak?

I tried to plug the desktop speaker line to either audio jack, but neither works. I wonder I may need to adjust some settings. I appreciate it if anyone can help me in this matter. Thanks.
Regards,

Yigo

Must have a minidock?

#3 Post by GZheng12 » Fri Nov 19, 2004 1:27 pm

Some postes said TP needs a minidock to link external speakers. I don't know whether it is required to obtain external audio output.

Another possibility is TP needs a sound amplifier to work with external speakers. If so, it is too bad. I don't know my guess is correct or not. Anyone can help?

try to use any headphone and see if it works.
you pointed out line-out.. there is no line out let you connect to non-amplified speaker. Line-out power is too low to drive a speaker ? I think i haven't see those desktop without amplifier for age.

I always use the headphones jack, works just fine. If you want a perfect solution, go for an external USB2 Sound card, or the new PC-Card from SoundBlaster...

Digital out only speakers screwed

#6 Post by GZheng12 » Sat Nov 20, 2004 6:31 pm

I finally figured it out that it is the hardware problem, the external speakers I tried to hook is Boston 735, originally came with my Gateway desktop. Because Boston 735 is the "digital sound output" only, IBM TP volume control does not such advanced option to check "digital output" while most desktop with Creative soundcard now has such option.

If SoundMax does not offer the digital sound, it seems I have to buy another pair of speakers for my laptop.
