T60 not showing hard drive during XP install

#1 Post by bacspasm » Wed Dec 26, 2007 10:50 pm

Help,

I am repairing a friends T60, 2366KFU which is a T7200 with the Fujitsu 120GB HDD. All of a sudden he installed iTunes this week and he is getting BSOD on boot up. Cannot even boot safe mode. I wiped the hard drive (not the Rescue Partition), and tried to install XP with a CD and get to the point where the install allows you to choose the partition.

I get the warning that no hard disks are found. When I removed the HDD to format it, it worked fine in my SATA housing, therefore I assume the drive is good.

Any suggestions? I did not want to use the rescue partition install because a limited install is desired.

Any suggestions?

TIA

I think the setting in the BIOS you are looking for is "AHCI" mode.

What you have to do is set it to compatibility mode before attempting to install xp.

Install it, find all the drivers, and then set it back to whatever it was before.

If you can't figure it out, I'll go boot into bios to get the exact place, let me know how you do! :)

Thanks J3ff,

I did not think to manipulate the BIOS for the drive, should have thought of this.

I could not wait and ran the Rescue/Recovery with limited options. We'll see how this goes. I am half thinking I will need to do the manual install anyways.
